I believe that it is important I get to know my students as individuals (beyond their academic profile and reputation). I make it a point during the first month of school to get to know them in a sincere and honest way. This allows me to create a learning environment that acknowledges their personalities, interests and unique needs. I am very empathetic to students who struggle socially and/or emotionally. I know that these struggles can affect a student’s ability to learn and I work hard to help students through these issues. When appropriate, I work with counselors and peers to provide support. I prepare lessons to meet learning objectives that are aligned with the district curriculum. Learning objectives are clearly articulated. I set high expectations for all my students. I believe in project-based instruction and learning; and I provide a variety of avenues to success.
