I have been teaching for over 25 years. I come from a time when every subject was taught in English. My approach to teaching English is very different from others. I just don't teach to pass but teach to build confidence in the language. This prepares the student for life outside the school environment where proficiency in the language goes a long way in helping the child get ahead in the world. I stress grammar, vocabulary and the spoken language. Many students do well in eamination but cannot speak fluently. This defeats the whole purpose of teaching a person a language. When a person can speak and write well this becomes a powerful tool. When it comes to mathematics my formula is simple, help the student understand the logic behind a certain formula and then make the student practice, practice, practice. When it comes to a learning subject like Science or History understanding is followed by memorising because that is the way the human brain works.
